Aims and scope

Architectural Dimensions and Beyond (ADB) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing the frontiers of architectural knowledge and practice. Our aim is to foster interdisciplinary research and dialogue that extends beyond traditional boundaries of architecture, incorporating insights from urban planning, environmental design, technological innovations, cultural studies, and architectural history.

Aims:

ADB seeks to:

  • Promote innovative and critical thinking in architectural and urban design, encouraging approaches that are sustainable, inclusive, and forward-looking.
  • Provide a scholarly platform for academics, professionals, and students from various disciplines to share research findings, theoretical insights, and practical methodologies.
  • Enhance the dialogue between researchers and practitioners to facilitate the application of research outcomes in real-world scenarios.
  • Encourage diversity in architectural discourse by integrating perspectives from different geographical regions and cultural backgrounds, including historical contexts.

Scope:

ADB's editorial scope encompasses a wide range of topics related to architecture and beyond, including but not limited to:

  • Architectural Theory and History: Exploring the evolution and influence of architectural styles, movements, and individual works throughout history, along with theoretical approaches that inform design and construction. This includes the study of significant architects, historical eras, and the preservation and interpretation of architectural heritage.

  • Sustainable and Resilient Design: Examining strategies for environmental sustainability, resilience to climate change, and resource efficiency in the built environment.

  • Technological Innovations: Investigating the impact of new technologies on architectural design, practice, and education, including digital fabrication, virtual and augmented reality, and artificial intelligence.

  • Urban and Landscape Architecture: Addressing the design, planning, and management of urban spaces and landscapes, focusing on improving human habitats and interactions.

  • Social and Cultural Aspects of Architecture: Analyzing how buildings and spaces reflect, influence, and engage with social dynamics, cultural identities, and community practices.

  • Policy and Regulatory Frameworks: Discussing the implications of policy, regulations, and governance on architectural design and the shaping of urban environments.

  • Design Education and Pedagogy: Reflecting on pedagogical practices in architectural education and their adaptation to current and future challenges in the field.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Encouraging contributions that bring together researchers from architecture and other fields such as engineering, sociology, anthropology, and the arts to address complex issues facing our societies.

ADB is committed to disseminating cutting-edge research and innovative ideas that inspire and challenge the norms of architectural and urban development. We invite original research articles, review papers, case studies, and critical essays that contribute significantly to the discourse in architecture and related fields, with a special emphasis on the historical dimensions that have shaped contemporary practices.
